Killed along with two other journalists, Mohammad Salah Qeshta and Abdul-Raouf Shaat, in an Israeli drone strike that targeted a car in Al-Zahraa City in central Gaza, during a filming mission documenting relief efforts at a newly established camp by the Egyptian Relief Committee. The vehicle was clearly displaying the Egyptian Relief Committee’s logo.

Civil Defense spokesman Mahmoud Basal said, "The journalists were performing a field photography mission in Netzarim (using a drone), while documenting the conditions of camps supervised by the Egyptian committee". He added that the journalists were wearing distinctive press clothing.

The IDF spun the massacre saying its troops "identified several suspects who operated a drone affiliated with Hamas in the central Gaza Strip, in a manner that posed a threat to their safety," and then "struck the suspects who activated the drone."

Anas Ghunaim was a freelancer journalist, videographer, photographer, and producer who worked for Smart Media and for the Egyptian Committee for Relief in Gaza. He had a passion for photography and videography, which he shared on his professional Instagram.
