Al-Nawajha, a journalist for Khabar news agency, was injured when Israeli warplanes struck an area housing several media outlets in Gaza City’s Rimal district. He died of his injuries later that day, according to the Palestinian press freedom group MADA, the Palestinian Journalists’ Syndicate.
Hisham Al-Nawajha, a resident of Rafah Governorate, was seriously injured in the same strike that also killed Saeed al-Taweel and Muhammad Rizq Sobh, and was admitted to the intensive care room at Al-Shifa Medical Complex.
On 10 October, three Palestinian journalists Said al-Tawil, director of Al-Khamisa news agency; photojournalist Mohammed Sobboh and photographer Hisham Al-Nawajha, who both worked for Khabar news agency, were killed by an Israeli airstrike that hit a residential building near Gaza City's fishing port. The three reporters were covering the evacuation of a residential building nearby, when the missile struck.
Hisham al-Nawajah regularly posted updates on social media from hospitals and decimated streets. He also reported for Khabar, documented what he saw under Israeli bombardment in Gaza.
Soon after the strike on that high-rise, Nawajah’s wife posted on Facebook on Oct. 10 that he was injured. “Pray for him,” she wrote, later describing him as “my sweetheart, my life partner.” The Khabar news agency then announced that he had died. The couple have young twin; According to Saleh al-Nazli, Khabar’s editor in chief, “We will truly miss our colleagues. They were dedicated to their work,” Nazli said. “Israeli strikes killed their dreams and the dreams of their families.”. Amjad Arabid, a West Bank-based journalist with Khabar, said he “will miss all the moments that brought us together,” pledging to keep reporting “so that their blood does not go in vain.”
