Palestinian journalist Hossam Zidan, originally from Khan Younis in the southern Gaza Strip, was killed in an Israeli airstrike on the city of Sidon in southern Lebanon, where he had been sheltering after displacement.
Al-Alam TV announced his death on Thursday, adding that his son was seriously injured and remains in intensive care.
Zidan had worked for the Iranian broadcaster since 2009 as a correspondent in its Syria bureau, covering major combat operations in Deir ez-Zor, Hama, and Aleppo from 2011 onward. He was mourned as "the chief correspondent and news editor of the "Al-Alam" and "Al-Alam Syria" channels" by the head of the Iranian Radio and Television Organization, Payman Jabali.
The overseas deputy of the Broadcasting Organization (Youth Journalist Club) states that "After the recent developments in Syria, this hardworking journalist continued his activities as a news secretary in Tehran while maintaining the same committed and responsible spirit and remained steadfast in the path of raising awareness and defending the truth until the last moments of his honorable life".
The Israeli Nazareth District Court incited against him by citing his name in March 2026 in a case involving allegations that a Golan resident had spied for Iran. An Israeli court ruling referenced his past journalistic ties and communications in the Golan region while covering regional developments, alleging that he was suspected of operating on behalf of the “Palestine branch” of Iran’s Quds Forces.
