Full name: Husam Atiya Abdurahman Al-Masri | حسام عطية عبد الرحمن المصري
Killed along with 4 other journalists in a targeted double-tap Israeli artillery shelling on Nasser Medical Complex on the morning of August 25, 2025. He was the first of the victims to be killed in the initial strike.
Hussam had earned a diploma in journalism and started freelance press work in 1998 including for the Palestinian Broadcasting Corporation. He had began working for Reuters in Rafah in May 2024 in a role focused on live broadcasting.
He later returned to his native Khan Younis where he was responsible for Reuters' daily broadcast feed from Nasser Hospital. He also reported several stories on the living conditions and the Israeli-engineered famine.
