Killed in an Israeli airstrike on Al-Baqa cafe on the seashore in Gaza City, along with 33 other individuals. Journalist Bayan Abu Sultan was also wounded in the airstrike.

Ismail Abu Hatab had worked as a photojournalist with several media outlets. He was scheduled to lead a digital security training workshop for local journalists during the same week he was killed.

According to the PJPC, Ismail was seriously injured in November 2024 while documenting the bombing of Burj Al-Ghafri.

The Al-Baqa cafe where he was killed was the centerpiece of his Los Angeles photography exhibition, "Between Sky and Sea," portraying life under siege and bombardment. Ismail had described the exhibition, saying: “In every image there is a soul, in every voice inside the tent there is a memory, and in every detail there is the pulse of Gaza".
