Marwan Mostafa Hosni Al Sawaf, 30 years old, from Gaza city a photographer and sound technician at the privately owned Alef Multimedia Company and at Ain Media Agency. He was killed on December 2, 2023, a day after he and his brother Montaser Al Sawaf, (also journalist), by an Israeli drone strike in Gaza City, according to media reports and his brother, Mohammed Al Sawaf, the founder of Alef Multimedia who spoke to CPJ.

In a previous aistrike where he was injured, on November 18, his father, veteran journalist, Mustafa al-Sawaf lost his life. Mustafa Al-Sawaf, who was called by some as the “Dean of Palestinian Journalists,” was one of the most famous and prominent Palestinian journalists.

Marwan Al Sawaf, was on his way to film coverage of the Israel-Gaza war when he was killed, his brother told CPJ. “He wasn’t wearing his press jacket at the time, as Marwan had expressed concern about the risks, fearing the jacket would make him a target due to the repeated targeting of journalists,” Mohammed Al Sawaf said.

According to available information, Marwan was born on January 12 in Gaza, Palestine, where he lived and grew up. He was always proud of his father, deeply loved his country and friends, and was known as a loyal, creative, and cheerful individual.
