He was killed along with two other journalists in an occupation bombing that targeted a car in Madinat al-Zahraa in the central Gaza Strip, where he was on a filming mission for the Egyptian Committee camps in the central Gaza Strip.
An Israeli airstrike hit a vehicle clearly marked with the emblem of the Egyptian Committee in the Al-Zahraa area of central Gaza. The vehicle was carrying journalists and staff who were on an assignment documenting Egypt’s humanitarian work and newly established refugee tent camps in the Netzarim corridor. The Journalist Abdel Raouf Shaat was killed instantly alonside two other journalists, Mohammed Salah Qashta and Anas Ghneim.
The journalists were in a vehicle displaying the Egyptian Committee’s logo, known to both local sources and, reportedly, to the Israeli military. The attack occurred despite a ceasefire, and video of the charred wreckage circulated online. Local and international media watchdogs have raised concerns about the targeting of journalists during the conflict.
Medical officials said the bodies of two journalists were taken to Shifa Hospital in Gaza City, while the third was taken to Al-Aqsa Martyrs Hospital in Deir al-Balah.
Civil Defense spokesman Mahmoud Basal said, "The journalists were performing a field photography mission in Netzarim (using a drone), while documenting the conditions of camps supervised by the Egyptian committee". He added that the journalists were wearing distinctive press clothing while they were at the targeting site.
According to the Committee to Protect Journalists, Qeshta worked as a spokesperson for the Egyptian Committee for Gaza Relief and also reported news to a large following on Telegram, indicating he was an active and connected reporter within Palestinian media circles.
