Montaser Al-Sawwaf, 33 years old, from Gaza city was a Press photographer at the Al-Anadolou Agency. He was killed on December 1, 2023 as a result of an an Israeli drone strike on a street in Shawa Square in the Al-Daraj neighborhood area, south of Gaza City, which led to his injury and then his martyrdom along with his brother Marwan, also journalist, and a number of their relatives, according to Anadolu news agency, Middle East Monitor, the International Federation of Journalists and to media reports and his brother, Mohammed Al Sawaf, the founder of Alef Multimedia who spoke to CPJ.


Anadolu Agency said that Al-Sawaf was seriously injured in an Israeli airstrike in southern Gaza, and had to wait for an ambulance for about half an hour, before finally being transferred to the Al-Ahli Al-Ma'madani Hospital in a private vehicle because a medical team had not arrived..

Journalist Mustafa al-Sawaf, Montaser's father, was killed on November 18, along with his wife and two sons, in an Israeli airstrike on his home in Gaza City; Mustafa Al-Sawaf, who is called by some as the “Dean of Palestinian Journalists,” was one of the most famous and prominent Palestinian journalists. Al-Sawaf was also seriously injured in the face about two weeks ago in a bombing that targeted his family's home, which resulted in the martyrdom of his father, journalist Mustafa Al-Sawaf, his mother, his two brothers, their children, and a large number of his family members. After recovering from his injury, he returned to work in the field, only to fall as a martyr on Decemebr 1 in an Israeli raid on Gaza City.
