Archivist Notes
• Photojournalist who worked notably with Agence France Presse (AFP). He also contributed to and wrote articles about Gaza for several media outlets including Libération, Le Devoir and Al-Monitor.
• Killed in the Israeli bombing of the Dar al-Arqam school turned shelter
• Hassouna has worked with AFP since 2014 and remains in Gaza, having been displaced ten times. Since the start of the war, Hassouna has been one of AFP's most prominent freelance video reporters in the Strip.
• Yousef Hassouna was awarded the prestigious Rory Peck award for his live extensive coverage of events in Gaza post October 7 with the photojournalist Bilal Sabbagh. Both worked for Agence France-Presse in Gaza. “Bilal and Youssef’s work is remarkable for its different emotions. We understand the horrific scale of the devastation thanks to their drone images,” the jury said, describing them as “unforgettable scenes.” AFP news director Phil Chetonde said, “Everyone at AFP is incredibly proud of Bilal and his colleagues’ work in Gaza. This award is a well-deserved reward for his excellent journalism in almost impossible conditions.”
